This was the first formal Thanksgiving Day dinner in Taus Mahal since 2002,† with a considerably smaller attendance for reasons cited earlier. But there were six of us present, granddaughter Celeste, her husband Jonathan, and our two great-grandchildren Layla and Ethan. They dodged the usual holiday traffic by motoring down from the San Francisco area on the preceding Monday and returning on the Friday after.
Even though a smaller contingent than on previous occasions was present, the array of dishes served was not. In what seemed like orchestrated pandemonium, we all prepared together a delightful repast that provided care packages for the next-day travelers as well as sobras that happily sustained us for a few days afterward.
